Capacity and fair use

Every plan includes a Smart Storage allowance. On the cards we show it as files —songs, videos, projects— because that is easier to picture than a number of gigabytes. The real allowance is measured in bytes, and that is what the system enforces.
This page explains how it is calculated, what you can store, what the limits are and which uses we do not allow.

1. How capacity is calculated
Card figures are estimates for the quality people usually work with: WAV and 4K video. We use the reference sizes above, round down and show the result with “≈”. If you store MP3 or 1080p video, several times more files fit.
If your files weigh more —4K video, 96 kHz WAV, sample-heavy projects— fewer files fit. The byte allowance does not change: the number of files does.
2. Your actual allowance
Each plan includes a Smart Storage amount: 5 GB on DISCOVER, 512 GB on ARTIST, 2 TB on ARTIST PRO and 5 TB on CREW. You can see how much you use in My WELX and in Drive.
The allowance covers what you store in WELX: Drive files, backed-up projects, events, Demo Room and a CREW’s shared content. Promotional benefits, referrals and codes add capacity on top and are shown separately.
3. What counts toward your allowance
The allowance measures the bytes you upload. Previews, thumbnails and optimized versions generated by WELX do not use your space.
The original copy of an Events video, kept so you can download it, is not counted twice either.
Incoming transfers and USB imports reserve space until they finish or are cancelled.
4. Deleted files
A deleted file keeps using quota until 30 days after its upload. If you delete it before that date, the space is released on day 30; if you delete it later, it is released immediately.
You do not need to do anything else: the system releases it automatically.
5. Renewal and expiry
The allowance is a limit, not a monthly consumption: it does not reset every month. It stays while your subscription is active and keeps the same value when you renew.
If the subscription expires or is cancelled, the account returns to the 5 GB of DISCOVER. We do not delete your content: new uploads are blocked until you free space or return to a plan.
Promo codes and bonuses add capacity with their own expiry date; referrals stay while the referred account keeps paying. Everything is shown separately in My WELX.
6. CREW
In a CREW, the allowance belongs to the shared workspace and measures the team content. Your personal storage stays separate.
7. What you can store
Capacity is for your work and your personal archive, or your team’s inside CREW.
- Music and masters, in whatever format you keep them.
- Projects and backups from your DAW.
- Video, photos and event material.
- Documents, contracts and Drive files.
- DJ playlists and your Rekordbox library.
- The team’s shared material, inside CREW.
8. What is not allowed
These uses may lead to throttling, account suspension or a request to remove content, under the Terms of Service.
- Reselling, subletting or giving away capacity as your own service.
- Sharing an account outside CREW: one person, one account.
- Using WELX as a CDN, public host or backup for other services.
- Storing illegal content or content you do not have rights to.
- Bypassing limits with multiple accounts or automation.
- Crypto mining or workloads unrelated to the product.
9. When you reach the limit
When the allowance is full, new uploads stop; what you already stored stays available to play, share and download.
You can free space or move to a larger plan. We do not delete your content to make room.
10. Changes to capacity
We may adjust reference sizes and card estimates. The allowance you pay for stays the same for the life of the plan, and changes are announced before they apply.
