Your Ableton project is more than the .als file
An Ableton Live project is a small ecosystem: the .als file, the samples it references, recordings made in the session and the folder structure that holds them. Backing up only the project file is the most common way to lose a track. WELX Music Projects is built around the whole set.
How WELX fits
- Upload the project and its associated files with the folder structure preserved.
- Keep dated backups so an earlier working session can be found again.
- Share the project with another artist without rebuilding a transfer link.
What a Live project depends on
A Live set references audio files outside the .als: samples, recordings, frozen tracks and sometimes third-party plugin states. Move the project without those files and Live opens with missing media. The project file is the map, not the territory.
Collect All and Save is the first step
Ableton’s Collect All and Save copies the referenced media into the project folder, which makes the set portable. It is the right habit before any backup or handoff. What it does not do is keep that folder synchronized, versioned or easy to share with someone who is not on your computer.
Music Projects in WELX
WELX Music Projects accepts the project and its associated files, keeps the folder structure and organizes saved projects by date. The project stays in the workspace, so it can be shared again later instead of becoming a link that expired.
Collaborating on a project
Sharing a project means another artist can download the material and open it in Live. It is not live co-editing inside the DAW, and WELX does not claim to be: the editing happens in Live, the exchange happens in the workspace. CREW adds roles when a team works on the same material.
Frequently asked questions
Does WELX open Ableton projects?
No. WELX stores and shares the project and its files. You open the .als in Ableton Live.
Are plugins and licenses included in the backup?
No. WELX backs up the project and its files, not third-party plugins or their licenses. A collaborator still needs the plugins the project uses.
Can I go back to an earlier version of a project?
Music Projects keeps backups organized by date so earlier sessions can be located. It does not promise unlimited version history or recovery of every change.
