LABELS & DEMOS
LabelGrid and WELX Label Manager: two ways to run demo intake
Both products help a label answer the same question: what do we do with the music that arrives? LabelGrid approaches it from label operations and distribution; WELX approaches it from reception and the workspace around the release. The right choice depends on where the bottleneck is.
How WELX fits
- Publish a public reception page with the label’s own guidelines and demo lists.
- Move submissions through new, reviewing, shortlisted, changes requested, accepted and rejected.
- Keep every version of a demo and separate internal notes from artist-visible feedback.
What LabelGrid covers
LabelGrid is a label management and distribution platform. Its feature set includes demo management, catalog tools and distribution, which means a label can run intake and delivery inside the same system. That breadth is useful when a label wants one vendor for operations.
What WELX Label Manager covers
WELX Label Manager gives the label a public reception page at its own address, with space for what A&R is looking for, reception policies and the questions an artist should answer. Submissions can arrive as a Demo Room link or a SoundCloud link, move through defined review states, and carry versions when changes are requested. Internal notes stay internal; artist-visible feedback stays visible.
Where they differ
LabelGrid goes further on distribution and catalog operations. WELX goes further on the workspace around reception: the same account holds the label’s events, files, team roles and promo campaigns. If your problem is delivery, LabelGrid covers more. If your problem is the inbox and the files around it, WELX is more direct.
Can you run both?
You can, but avoid two inboxes. Pick one place where submissions land and decisions are recorded. Running LabelGrid for distribution and WELX for reception works when the team agrees that WELX is the source of truth for A&R decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Is WELX an alternative to LabelGrid?
For demo reception and A&R decisions, yes. For distribution and catalog operations, no: WELX does not deliver releases to stores.
Does WELX distribute music?
No. WELX is a workspace. Distribution stays with a distributor such as LabelGrid, Label Worx or another partner.
Do artists need a WELX account to submit?
Yes. Artists sign in with their WELX identity to send a demo and follow the label’s response.
