DJ LIBRARIES
Serato crates, carried beyond the laptop
Serato is where a DJ builds a library and a set. The crates, the cue points and the history are tied to that machine and that installation. WELX does not replace Serato; it gives an exported selection somewhere to live beyond the laptop, with its audio attached.
How WELX fits
- Export a selection as M3U8 and import it with WELX DJ Playlists.
- Synchronize the audio the playlist references and listen from your phone.
- Share a selection without sending a folder of files.
How Serato keeps a library
Serato DJ keeps a database of tracks, crates that group them and a history of what was played. The audio files live wherever they were imported from, often an external drive. The library is only as portable as those two things together.
Exporting a selection
If your Serato version can export an M3U8 playlist, export the crate you want to take with you. The file describes the track list; it does not contain the audio. WELX DJ Playlists imports that list and then synchronizes the audio it references, which is the step that makes the selection portable.
What travels and what does not
The track list and the audio travel. Serato cue points, loops and beat grids do not: they belong to Serato’s library, not to an M3U8 file. If hot cues are the part of your preparation you need on another device, Rekordbox Auto-Sync is the path that carries them, because it synchronizes track information rather than a plain playlist.
When Rekordbox is the better path
If your library is already in Rekordbox and you rely on hot cues, use Rekordbox Auto-Sync. If your library is in Serato and you want the selection on your phone, use the M3U8 route. Choosing by what needs to travel avoids disappointment on the other device.
Frequently asked questions
Does WELX read Serato crates directly?
No. WELX reads exported M3U8 playlists. Check whether your Serato version exports that format.
Does WELX sync Serato hot cues?
No. Cue points and loops stay in Serato. WELX synchronizes hot cues from Rekordbox through Rekordbox Auto-Sync.
Can I listen to a Serato selection on my phone?
Yes, after importing the M3U8 list and synchronizing the referenced audio with WELX. The playlist then plays from your phone like any other WELX playlist.
